Scars
Scars are a natural part of the healing process after an injury or surgery. While they can fade over time, some scars may be more noticeable or bothersome.
Types of Scars:
- Hypertrophic scars: Raised scars that are often red or pink.
- Keloid scars: Large, raised scars that extend beyond the original wound.
- Atrophic scars: Depressed scars that often result from acne or chickenpox.
Scar Treatment Options:
A variety of treatments can help minimize the appearance of scars, including:
- Silicone treatment: Applying silicone gel (such as Kelocote or Dermatix scar gel) or silicone sheets to the scar to help flatten and fade scars.
-
Surgical treatment: Scar revisions incorporating techniques such as layered wound closure and z-plasties. Excision of keloid scars, often supplemented with intra-lesional steroid injections and/ or radiotherapy.
